At Harmony Dental Studio in Vaughan, Toronto, we know that excellent dental care is rooted in understanding. That’s why we’re dedicated to educating our patients about all aspects of dental health, including the often-overlooked dental X-ray.
What Are Dental X-rays?
Dental X-rays are two-dimensional images that allow dentists to detect problems in the teeth, mouth, and jaw. X-ray imaging can reveal hidden dental structures, malignant or benign masses, bone loss, and cavities between teeth.
Types of Dental X-rays
There are several types of dental X-rays that we use at Harmony Dental Studio to cater to different diagnostic needs:
- Bitewing X-rays showcase the upper and lower back teeth in one view. They are typically used to detect decay between teeth and to show how well the upper and lower teeth line up.
- Periapical X-rays focus on two complete teeth from root to crown.
- Panoramic X-rays capture the entire mouth in a single image, including all the teeth, upper and lower jaws, surrounding structures, and tissues.
- Occlusal X-rays track the development and placement of an entire arch of teeth in either the upper or lower jaw.
